Liverpool has held talks over a potential summer swoop for Ademola Lookman. The 27-year-old had already looked set to leave Atalanta this summer after three seasons with the club, and the likelihood of an exit increased last week after he was publicly criticized by Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Lookman missed a penalty during Atalanta's Champions League defeat by Club Brugge, and Gasperini said after the match that the former Everton man should not have stepped up from 12 yards as he was "one of the worst penalty takers" he had ever seen.

CaughtOffside reports that Lookman has admirers at a host of top clubs in Europe, with Liverpool and Arsenal's interest at a more advanced stage than the interest from other teams.

Manchester United, Chelsea, and Juventus are both mentioned as teams that are also interested in Lookman, while it is claimed that Atalanta is looking for a fee between $63million and $68million for the attacker.

Lookman has plenty of experience playing in England having come through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and also played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester, but it is at Atalanta where he has displayed by far the best form of his career.

Barcelona 'could sell De Jong'

Meanwhile, TBR Football says that intermediaries have been sounding out clubs in the Premier League to gauge how much interest there is in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong has found himself out of the Barca team under Hansi Flick at times this season, and while he remains a key part of the Blaugrana squad, his huge wages may well see the Catalan club try to move him on in the summer as it focuses on improving its finances.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are named as possible destinations for De Jong, with the suggestion that he could be a good alternative to Martin Zubimendi for the Reds.

Liverpool earmarked Zubimendi as its principal target during last summer's transfer window and remains an admirer of the Real Sociedad midfielder, but it was reported earlier this season that the 26-year-old is now likely to end up at Arsenal this summer.
